What is on my Bucket List?

Posted on December 6, 2019October 21, 2021 by travelintara

Everyone has a “bucket list”…what’s yours?

It can be activities, places, whatever you want! I’m a firm believer that everyone should step out of their comfort zones to experience new things.

I saw a quote on Facebook the other day that said, “You only live once, and you can always make more money, but not opportunity or time”.  That really stuck with me!  You see, often when I talk to people about my bucket list, they tell me “You’re lucky, I could never afford that!” Guess what? Sometimes, I can’t either!  I’m just an ER nurse; I’m not making a ton of money.  When you see me go on these trips, just know it’s something I’ve saved up and planned for…orrrrr worked a bunch of overtime for lol

Like when I went to the Philippines?  That was the #1 country on my bucket list.  It was a GOAL of mine to go, so I worked for it!  I saved cash in an envelope, everything from rummage sale money to Christmas money, and in 2-3 years I had enough to pay for my plane tickets and still had some left over to take with me! Since starting that I’ve realized the envelope method is what works best for me, and I typically have 2-3 envelopes at a time that I put spare cash in to help me save (My current envelopes are labeled “Next dive trip”, “Next adventure”, and “Honeymoon”!)

Not to mention, not ALL travel has to be expensive. You can start small! Heck, a flight to Denver, Colorado runs less than $200 at times. Skip eating out for a few months and you can save that up easily! Plus, do your research and find other ways to save! (P.S. Would anyone be interested in a post about tips for saving + ways to travel for cheap? If so let me know!)

So, I figured if we are going to talk about bucket lists, I should share mine!

Let’s start with activities! Beware, my list is pretty long and just keeps growing! I’m sure I’ve even forgotten to list a few…

TARA’S BUCKETLIST ACTIVITIES

(will mark them off as I go so ya’ll can see what I’ve done so far since posting this!)

  1. Learn how to surf
  2. Become dry suit certified so I can dive the Silfra Fissure
  3. Zipline through the jungle
  4. Fly an airplane
  5. Participate in a sea turtle release after rehabilitation
  6. Watch sea turtles nest and hatch
  7. Do a shark dive (sorry mom!)
  8. Dive with dolphins
  9. See a leatherback sea turtle, manta ray, and sea horse in the wild
  10. Go paragliding
  11. Hike a “14er” (a mountain peak that exceeds 14,000 feet)
  12. Learn a form of martial arts
  13. Go on a safari tour
  14. Become fluent in another language
  15. Visit an elephant sanctuary
  16. Snorkel with humpback whales
  17. Learn how to free dive
  18. See the northern lights
  19. Write a book
  20. Become a flight nurse
  21. Ice skate on a frozen lake in the mountains
  22. Sing in front of a crowd (No, I’m not a good singer, I just want to!)
  23. Become a pediatric nurse practitioner
  24. Participate in a medical mission trip
  25. Go on a “solo” trip

TARA’S BUCKET LIST PLACES

(It’s literally IMPOSSIBLE to name all the places, because I have sooo many countries on my bucket list plus I have a goal to visit all 50 states, so I’m going to name the top 15 countries I want to visit, in no particular order! Will mark them off as I visit!)

  1. Thailand
  2. Greece
  3. Indonesia
  4. Australia
  5. Germany
  6. Ireland
  7. Italy
  8. Iceland
  9. Costa Rica
  10. Egypt
  11. Peru
  12. New Zealand
  13. Croatia
  14. Netherlands
  15. Canada

Ideally, there are really no countries I “don’t” want to visit (although my goal is always safety!). Do your research before traveling to make sure wherever you are going is a safe place for tourists and what you can do to protect yourself, etc.

Now that I’ve shared mine, I’m curious about yours! Comment things you’d like to do or places you want to go below!

It’s a big world…GO SEE IT!

share it!
